Annie and I ventured into North Canterbury again, this time for canaries and budgies.
Birds for sale
Birds in tiny boxes
This shy creature is the winner
These canaries were being judged on their song. They are kept in their closed boxes until judging time when the doors are opened and they have 10 minutes to sing their little hearts out.
Rural New Zealand traditions seemed to be alive and well! For a gold coin donation we were fed home-made scones with jam and cream and a cup of tea. delightful
